Villanelle - EP - Liner Notes

The “Villanelle-EP” was born out of multiple loves I have, both with the art of remixing another artist's vision as well as the evolution and change within an artist themselves.

Essentially all artists over time, re-mix their own sound from what was once common to them, to something entirely different while at the same time retaining every bit of the original intent.

There was a transformation in my own music and process after the release of my last album “Ritual.” For those sessions, I recorded the album and then nearly 30 other live tracks within just a few weeks.

After putting aside the tracks I knew were for “Ritual,” I then narrowed down the first few that really jumped out as being nearly finished, and so on from there made a few more half-finished albums.

After sitting with the heavy ambiance for a while I decided I wanted to make the tracks MOVE and EVOLVE more in a percussive. As a percussionist since childhood and drums being my first musical love, it blew my mind that I hadn’t been incorporating my love for heavy rhythms and jazz-infused breakbeats into my own music, so I then decided to correct course.

“Villanelle” was the first track I used to create this new style that developed many songs after it, one album that is currently finished and on the horizon, “The Inevitable Death of Language,” and almost 3 more near-finished albums just waiting for that last little run-through to make sure everything is sitting and moving together JUST right.
